So you definitely know that having a video is a priority for you. However you still need to know how to choose wedding videographer that will bring your vision to life! Here are a few things to consider when reviewing videographers so that you can find a perfect fit for you.

Find a wedding videographer you vibe with

If you are looking for someone to create a special video that carries you through every part of your wedding day, it’s going to require you to spend a lot of time with you and your wedding party during the day. Out of your entire vendor team, it’s not uncommon for your wedding videographer to be there longer than anyone else. For instance, we often arrive before the photographer does in the morning and stay later to capture as much open dancing as we can. You don’t want to end up stuck with someone who you don’t really enjoy hanging out with.

Fortunately there is a fairly simple solution to this: setup a video chat or at the very least, a phone call with anyone you are considering. If you’re able to carry on a great conversation with them and can tell that they are connecting with your vision for your wedding, that’s a great sign. Having a wedding videographer that you are comfortable with with allow you to relax into your day even more and enjoy the moments without any added awkwardness.

Watch their long and short films

It’s fairly common for wedding videographers to offer short films, often called teasers or sneak peeks. Those can often have a completely different vibe or style than what their longer highlight films have.

You need to spend time watching all the different-length films that they create so you have a great understanding of what you may end up getting. You don’t want to be blown away by someone’s teaser, only to find out the quality of their longer edits isn’t nearly as good. If you are able to find a wedding videographer who produces engaging teasers, while also delivering beautifully crafted highlight films that hold your attention throughout, you know you are definitely onto something.

Observe their Storytelling

Every editor approaches their films slightly differently But as you watch more wedding films, you will start to pick up on different styles that you either enjoy or don’t connect with.

Some wedding videographers don’t use a lot of dialogue in their films. Others, like us for example, absolutely LOVE to lean into the audio from the toasts and vows to help tell each couple’s story.

Another thing to pay attention to is whether they tell stories in chronological order, often starting with get-ready and ending with receptions footage. Or do they bounce around all throughout the day during the video? Neither is specifically right or wrong, but you may have a certain style that appeals to you more and it’s valuable to make note of that.

Pay Attention to Audio

Although it’s important for a video to look good, we’d argue it’s actually MORE important for it to sound great. One of the most powerful things about video is that it’s likely the only way the spoken words from your day will be captured for future generations to experience. We could honestly write an entire article just about the power of audio in wedding films, but if it’s not something you’re already aware of, we wanted to mention it here.

Capturing good audio at live events is not an easy task. So you may notice that the wedding videographers who do this well often cost a bit more. However, we would argue that it’s well worth the investment.

Picking the right wedding videographer is easier when you know what you are looking for.

That’s where we will leave it for today! Hopefully paying attention to those four areas will help you find the perfect wedding videographer for your big day. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us on Instagram, Facebook or by filling out our contact form.
